Bucks & Bulls has a unique opportunity to offer its clients that no other outfitter currently offers. For over ten years we have been conducting fair chase, velvet bull hunts which take place in late summer. This time of year these magnificent animals live in high country basins at elevations as high as 11,000 ft. and travel in bachelor groups. It is truly exciting to see these large groups of bulls sporting their newly grown velvet head gear. These large velvet antlers really make a unique addition to any sportsmen's trophy collection.
As the elk herd has increased over the last 17 years so has the quality of bulls. In the last five years we have harvested five bulls on this velvet hunt over 380 B&C points including a bull grossing over 414 B&C points in 2005. In order not to affect the great genetics of the herd we hunt these bulls on a very limited basis, offering only one to two permits per year. These permits are sold each year, usually prior to February, either by private treaty or on an auction basis.
Each hunter will have a minimum of two guides and will be hunting a pre-scouted bull. This hunt is conducted out of a comfortable tent camp set in a beautiful meadow next to a crystal clear creek. For hunters looking for a great opportunity to have a very personalized trophy elk hunt this is it. Please give us call for additional details, pricing, and availability of this exceptional western hunt.
Special Elk
Limited Entry Landowner Permit
This hunt takes place on one of Utah's premium limited entry elk units and 2005 was the first year that landowner permits were offered for this particular unit. Bucks & Bulls acquired this tag in an effort to offer its clients one more quality elk hunt. In the last three years the unit has really started to come on strong and has produced some excellent bulls including a 420 B&C non-typical. Every year the unit has two or three bulls harvested or seen in the 380+ class. Another great aspect about this hunt is that the state only issues eight public land permits for the entire unit, and it is a large unit.
In 2005 Bucks & Bulls had the two landowner permits and were able to harvest a 369" 7x6 and a 385 class bull (see photos below). That is a pretty good average! In 2006 there will only be one landowner tag for the entire unit which we will have again. The season dates on this hunt for 2006 are September 16-26 which is during the peak of the rut and the hunter will have the choice to hunt the full ten days. This hunt will be conducted out of a comfortable housing facility and will be guided on a two on one basis (two guides per one hunter).
